Fall 2016

Hello to you from Nungesser Lake Lodge!

The 2016 Walleye fishing season opened on May 20, the opening date was late this year as it is every seven years. Between this and the early ice out the fish had already changed their location from where people had expected them to be. Once they were found the fishing was phenomenal and stayed that way for the rest of the season. There was a very short (only a couple of days) May fly hatch in July and the walleyes were hungry. Many large fish were caught and released and many groups reported catching a large number of fish.

2016 was the first time in 16 years that Ontario had a Spring Bear Hunt. However, it was only announced the end of April so we chose to forgo the Spring Bear hunt for this season. Three of our four fall bear hunters got their animal, but they only had a limited time available to be at camp.

Next year the Spring Bear Hunt will be on from May 1 to June 15, 2017. The Fall bear hunting season begins August 15, 2017. Most of the bear tags for that year are already called for but we do have a few available.

We said "congratulations" to Kody and Devinne when she said "YES" to the proposal made right on the dock at the camp. They are considering coming back for their honeymoon next year.

The Staff cabin, cabin 5 and 6 were all shingled this year. That leaves only Cabin 8 to be done and then every building will have a new roof. The river landing was torn out and re-built using treated lumber and this should last a long time.

There will be a few changes in 2017. Just like in restaurants, work vehicles or hotel rooms there will be no more smoking inside the cabins or TV room.

The Lodge cabin will be turned into a Deluxe cabin. Air conditioning, living room furniture, a Satellite TV and a screened in deck will be added. We are adding other amenities to the Deluxe cabins including dish washers. The rate for the Deluxe cabins will be going up $20.00 per person. All other rates will remain the same.

There are going to be many changes in our lives too. Doug's son JD and Holly are going to make us grandparents some time around Christmas. As well, Doug's son Nick and Ashley are expecting the end of March. We can't wait - The more the merrier!

Initially when we bought the new G3 Yamaha boats everyone really loved them. Now that they are a few years old they do not seem to perform as well as the new Lund Outfitters we bought last year. Because of this we will be changing over as many G3's to the Lunds as we can.

We will be attending the Chicago All-Canada Sport show at Pheasant Run resort in St. Charles, from January 12 to 17, 2017. After that we go directly to the Green Bay, Wisconsin All-Canada show at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center from January 19 to 22, 2017. On February 9 to 13, 2017 we will be the Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota for the last All-Canada show for the season. More information can be found on-line by going to: www.allcanada.com.

After this we will be attending the Omaha Boat, Sports and Travel show at the Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska the week of February 23 to 26, 2017. Our booth number will be 1037 and more information can be accessed at: www.omahasportandtravelshow.com.
