Fall 2015

hello to you from Nungesser Lake Lodge 2008 Ltd.

The weather was on our side for Opening week as the ice had gone out completely by May 4, 2015.  The water was very low the first couple of weeks but after a goodly amount of rain in June it was right back up to normal.  By the end of the year it was actually up by about a foot.  Rubber boots were needed to take the trail into Farrer Lake.  The number of fish caught and released was exceptional.

The largest walleye reported to us was caught by Cody Corfits and was 30 inchs long.  The largest Northern was 51 inches.  The measuring tape and trough in the boats were not large enough to accommodate the fish so he measured it alongside of a paddle and then checked back at camp.  This monster fish was caught and released in North Bay.  Both fish can be seen on our Facebook page.

For those of you who remember Doug's son "Bugsy" (Ryan) he became a dad on June 11, 2015 to Curran Duncan Van Dusen who arrived at 12:20 am, 7 pounds 15 ounces, 21 inches long.  First eagerly awaited grandson for Ryan and Cari-Ann's families.

Four new 17.5 Lund Outfitter upgrade boats arrived for the week of June 12, 2015 and proved to be quite popular with groups who requested them.  This brings the number of upgrades available to twelve.  We have ordered eight new 18 foot Alumarines for the 25 HP motors for next season which will mean that every boat and motor in camp will be three years old or less.

Our provider for Wi-Fi and telephone had a major upgrading of equipment in July and service was greatly improved.  The telephone was clear and the Wi-Fi had a much stronger signal.  The system is still susceptible to weather patterns but works much better than it used to.

Three charcoal grills were placed around camp and they got a lot of use.  We will be adding a cover to them that will help with cooking out in the rain.  The fish cookers had been moved off of the decks for safety reasons.

Deluxe cabin 8 got new (to us) living room and dining room furniture in order to better accommodate the number of people that the cabin can hold.  A new rocking chair for Jon and several other amenities were also put in.

A new river landing on the camp side has been planned for next season.  The lumber that had been placed there in 2009 all needs replacing.  A longer, wider deck will be installed for easier handling and loading.

We have received an NSF check back this year for a two people trip from a new guest.  Also, we had one person who has come to camp several times that said he forgot his checkbook and has never paid us for his three person trip.  We have contacted both of these persons several times and have yet to get any money from either of them.  This is very disheartening and may lead to changes in how we accept final payments.  If you cannot afford the trip or have other pressing financial issues PLEASE do not come to camp.  You must understand that this may be your holiday but it is unfair to our business and what we dependupon for our living.

This year we had a total of 9 bear hunters, all of whom were successful.  One hunter chose to take a 20 minute video of his bear rather than shoot it.  The second of the color phase bears was harvested but there is still a fully cinnamon colored bear out there.

Also found on our trail cameras was an extremely large bear who only came to feed at night.  This is probably why he got so big but he would be a challenge for any hunter.  Pictures of him can be seen on Facebook.
